摘要: The anti-oxidative SiC/SiO2 coatings were successfully prepared on carbon fibers by the sol–gel method with tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) and vinyltriethoxysilane (VTES) as precursors. The effect of VTES on the preparation and oxidation resistant property of SiC/SiO2 coatings were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA). The pyrolysis product of TEOS gel was composed of SiO2. However, both SiC and SiO2 were obtained by pyrolysis of VTES-contained precursors at 1500 oC. The degree of conversion of carbothermal reduction reaction was decreased with the addition of VTES,and the SiC/SiO2 coating derived from hybrid TEOS/VTES had a higher SiO2 content. The oxidation resistance of SiC/SiO2 coated fibers was mainly depended on the thickness of the coating. The 5 wt% TEOS derived SiC/SiO2 coating with a thickness of about 500 nm increased the onset oxidation temperature by about 300 oC as compared with the as-received carbon fibers.
